Controlled Implosions and Conversations from the Studio
Dec 2- Feb 9 2012
Reception: Dec 3. 5–7 pm

Art Rental & Sales Gallery_Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Leo S. Bing Center, Lower Level
5905 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles CA 90036

With her diptychs of imploding interiors and mirrored intersections Jiyon Hong notates the failure of memory and the malleability of perception. Executed in acrylic and colored pencil, they employ a detached, almost formal perspective whose imagery is at first uncanny but ultimately betraying. Hong is specifically interested in the gap between so-called objective reality and our perceived reality and how the latter mutates, moving away from the real before us. Believing knowledge to be fixed excludes the possibilities rendered by the imagination, experience, and memory of the individual.
